Seek and You Shall Find...and He Who seeks Finds...Matt. 7:7-8, Mike Ezeagba |
|
Having been raised in a Christian family and in Christian schools (primary and secondary), I can say that I have a better than average understanding of the Bible and a very firm belief in the existence of God. However, of all the teachings imparted to me at the time, none stuck with me as much as the verses in Proverbs that state that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and John 4:24 that says that God is Spirit and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Nevertheless as I grew up, the aspect of using the human spirit as the proper organ to worship and touch the things of God was never stressed. Because of that I felt a lot of emptiness, and thus doubted the genuineness of the denomination I grew up in. Consequently, I sought the Lord in almost any building that had a cross, only to be met with emptiness time and time again and, eventually I gave up, but reminded the Lord of John 4:24. However, when I came to the States, I renewed my search for the ``real church'' where the worshippers would worship in spirit and in truthfulness, but to my greatest disappointment, the division that pervades the churches here goes beyond doctrines to include matters such as class, race, culture, and lifestyles. I was frustrated. But again I reminded the Lord of John 4:24. Praise the Lord! He finally brought me to a local church; and in my first meeting, there was a strong and clear registration within me that the search was over. As I began to meet with the local church and to study the ministry of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee, the Bible became a precious and open book to me. Through the writings of these two brothers in the Lord, I saw that our dear Lord has a purpose, and that His purpose is carried out by Him through us in our loving contact with Him. They have helped me to love the Lord more than ever. |
